My First Koshien Experience: Watching Japan’s High School Baseball with My Son (2-Day Trip from Tokyo)
| Koshien Stadium (Senshu University Matsudo Senior High School VS Hokusho High School) |
On March 21, I visited Koshien Stadium with my son to watch the Spring High School Baseball Tournament.
It was my first time seeing Koshien in person. I had only watched it on TV before. This trip became much more than just watching baseball — it turned into a memorable 2-day journey from Chiba to Kansai.
Day 1: Traveling from Tokyo to Osaka
We traveled from Tokyo to Shin-Osaka by Shinkansen.
After arriving, we walked to Kunijima Station and then took a train to Nagahoribashi. From there, we walked to our hotel in Shinsaibashi.
It was a simple move, but walking through the city gave us a small taste of local life in Osaka.
Day 2: Koshien Stadium – A Dream Stage
We checked out at 7:30 AM and headed to Koshien from Kintetsu-Nippombashi Station.
The first game started at 9:00 AM, and we stayed to watch all three games that day.
The atmosphere was incredible.
The cheering, the sound of brass bands, and the passion of the players made it very emotional. Koshien is not just a stadium — it is a sacred place for high school baseball players in Japan.
Watching this with my son made the experience even more meaningful.
After the Games: Koshien Museum
After the games, we visited the Koshien Museum.
We learned about the history of Koshien Stadium and the Hanshin Tigers. It helped us understand how deeply baseball is rooted in Japanese culture.
Exploring Kobe Before Heading Home
Before returning home, we explored Kobe.
We visited Chinatown in Motomachi, walked around Meriken Park, and saw Kobe Port Tower.
We also enjoyed local food — Akashiyaki and Omusoba.
Finally, we went to Shin-Kobe and tried to visit Nunobiki Falls. Unfortunately, it was already dark, so we couldn’t see much.
Final Thoughts
This trip was not just about baseball.
It was about sharing a special experience with my son and discovering more about Japanese culture.
If you visit Japan, watching a game at Koshien is something I strongly recommend.
